WILD AND SCENIC RIVER ACTION ALERT
In 1974, the Chattooga River was designated as a National Wild and
Scenic River because of its biodiversity, largely unimpacted watershed, and
beautiful scenery. The river and surrounding area provides places for fishing,
hiking, swimming, hunting, wildlife viewing, and whitewater boating. Wilson
Creek. This is an important opportunity to maintain the current management plan
that protects the upper Chattooga River.
PROTECT WILSON CREEK
Wilson Creek is designated as an “Outstanding Resource Water”
by the NC Department of Environment & Natural Resources, the state’s
highest water quality classification. It is one of the most pristine bodies
of waters in NC and is a popular destination for anglers and paddlers. However:
On Monday August 6 the Caldwell County Planning Board passed a zoning request
by a Florida developer – The Archer Group - which would allow the development
of nearly 650 acres along Wilson Creek.

Right now, the NC legislature is considering putting a referendum on the ballot
so voters can choose to invest $1 billion over five years in conservation for
rivers and streams, forests, farms, parks, and gamelands. If you want a chance
to help wildlife and habitat, legislators need to hear from you immediately.

In the next few days, your Member of Congress will be making key decisions about
the 2007 Farm Bill. Please urge them to ensure strong wildlife conservation
