In fact, whenever I see a product on the grocery store shelves that is marked with that big, bright, colorful word-"New!"-then I'm pretty sure what's new is that it's the same old thing in a smaller box at the same price. HAWK goes BATTY! at the kick off meeting of their third year. Scott Bosworth
from the NC Wildlife Resources Commission will teach us all about bats, why
they are so important in a balanced ecosystem and what their biggest threats

Make your community a wildlife friendly zone! HAWK will host a Habitat Stewards program, a highly acclaimed training series created by the National Wildlife Federation® on September 19, 20 and 21, 2008 in Matthews. Individuals who complete this program will become Certified Habitat Stewards and will be equipped with the knowledge to work with individuals, schools, businesses and places of worship to create wildlife habitats in their communities.
Workshops include information on gardening with natives, backyard bird management, composting, water and soil stewardship, plant identification, invasive species control and other environmental and conservation issues. Classes will be held 8:00am-5:00pm on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Matthews Community Center.
Participation is $50 plus 40 service hours. Attendance for all three days is
required. Space is limited so sign up soon. Deadline for registration is Aug

Lake Norman Wildlife Conservationists
The vision of LNWC is to protect and enhance the natural resources and wildlife
habitats of the greater Lake Norman area for all to enjoy. The group's mission
is to provide people concerned about preserving wildlife habitats with a forum
to fellowship with like-minded individuals and an opportunity to make a positive

LAKE NORMAN WILDLIFE CRUISE

- 4:00 PM at Queens Landing. This event will feature a 2 1/2 hour cruise on
Lady of the Lake, the newest and most modern of Queens Landings' ships. The
cruise will highlight nature's wonders found on Lake Norman, from osprey platforms

moon paddle in Nance Cove for anyone interested. Come for the picnic, the paddle,

headlamp or attached flashlight.
