IMPLEMENTING THE NORTH CAROLINA WILDLIFE ACTION PLAN

North Carolina’s Wildlife Action Plan is a 577-page document that details steps needed to be taken to conserve 371 priority species of birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, fish, mollusks, and crustaceans. Produced by the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission, the plan charts the course for the future of North Carolina wildlife. NCWF has committed to
help our members connect with this far-reaching initiative, and work to find hands-on projects that will help implement the Wildlife Action Plan. This is a critical function of our growing statewide net work of NCWF chapters.

This organization and the Wildlife Resources Commission have created a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) underscoring our commitment to this wild life conservation project. The MOU describe both parties’ intention to build a community of citizen conservationists, sportsmen, and other outdoor enthusiasts. This community will become a participant in an
integrated approach to conserving all fish and wildlife in North Carolina.

The primary vehicle by which NCWF will work on Wildlife Action Plan issues is our chapter network. Chapters are working with land developers to identify and protect critical habitat before it is destroyed, cultivating and coordinating volunteers that monitor and evaluate high priority species of wildlife, and work as activists for local parks, watersheds and nature preserves.
