Land Stewardship
Forest or field, public or private, high country or
cypress-ringed swamp—land is where conservation
starts. Every acre matters, which is why the N.C. Wildlife
Federation’s work on behalf of land stewardship
encompasses projects as diverse as landscape-scale planning
for large public holdings and backyard habitat improvements
for homeowners.
Project: Private
Lands
Encourage incentive-based
wildlife protection and habitat
conservation among private landowners.
Project: Public Lands
Protect and push
for the best management of our national forests
and parks, and National Wildlife Refuges.
Project: Habitat Enhancement
Provide
quality wildlife habitat.
Project: Game Lands
Advocate for additional
150,000 acres of state game lands.
Project: U.S. Farm Bill
Work with NWF
to protect it from budget cuts.
Project: North Shore Road
Protect Fontana
Lake and Great Smoky Mountains National Park from road
construction, and push for a monetary settlement.
Project: Outlying
Landing Field
Continue to play a
leading role in judiciary, political, and educational
initiatives to halt the construction of an OLF in critical
wildlife habitats.
Project: Bonner
Bridge
Push for the bridge replacement
option most compatible with Pea Island National Wildlife
Refuge |
