This program is the volunteer mentoring arm of the National Wildlife’s Backyard Wildlife Habitat program and Schoolyard Habitat program. Volunteers will receive intensive training to equip them with knowledge and tools they need to help others create and enhance habitat for wildlife in their communities.

Areas covered through training:

Ø      Habitat Site analysis

Ø      Cavity Nesting Bird Species

Ø      Water Quality

Ø      Backyard bird management

Ø      Educational benefits of Backyard Wildlife Habitat & Schoolyard Wildlife Habitat

Ø      Attracting Butterflies

After you complete this training to become a certified Habitat Steward, you will help others create and restore native and natural habitats that benefit the wildlife in your area (minimum of 50 hours of volunteer service within one year). The general concept of the program consists of providing 4 criteria (food, water, cover, and a place to raise young) for wildlife.
