In fact, your Schoolyard Habitats® site will not only provide inspiration for learning among students, educators and the community, but will become an important part of your local ecosystem providing essential habitat for wildlife.

NCWF hosts Schoolyard Habitat workshops throughout the year. We also have educational materials for projects such as butterfly gardening, creating bog gardens and project feeder watch. An office loan program for Schoolyard Habitats and Invasive Plant videos, slide presentations and other resources is available by calling (704) 332-5696. It’s like bringing a field trip to your own NC school grounds!

2000 Schoolyard Habitat Certified in NC!

A North Carolina School, Park Road Montessori in Charlotte, received the honor of being the 2,000 Schoolyard Habitat certified in the Nation during this year’s Earth Day celebration. NCWF and NWF held a certification presentation commemorating the landmark certification. Some of the projects students have completed include: a nesting box monitoring program, planting an orchard, clearing invasive plants from the grounds, and planting butterfly and vegetable gardens. A crowd of 500 enjoyed children songs about habitat and the release of thousands of lady bugs.
Congratulations!

*Great environmental education resource for educators!

This year's Love-A-Tree kit Program theme is "The Sun, Trees, and Me!" The activities and lessons in the kit help students understand the many connections between the sun, trees, and people. These resources and activities support the 5th grade Standard Course of Study for Science and meet several other 5th grade Curriculum Area Competency Goal Objectives. Orders for other grade levels are very welcome and will be served as long as supplies last. Please note: The Love-A-Tree program has been modified. Kits will now be contained in large envelopes and will be mailed directly to teachers that order them. Each teacher will need to order one kit for his or her classroom use. Orders can also be printed and faxed to 919-7331616 www.eenorthcarolina.org/edresources/loveatreeform.htm
